Postal Codes of Pakistan

Postal Codes of Pakistan

Various postal codes began in Pakistan, making it easier to sort and deliver mail to various regions. With postal codes assigned to particular areas, whether major cities or small towns or remote villages, postal codes are fundamental in Pakistan to ensure that mail and packages are delivered properly and on time.

The postal code of Pakistan is a five-digit code. The first two digits refer to the routing district, generally considered the main city or area, while the last three digits correspond to a small post office or a delivery area within that district. With this arrangement, the code ensures that even in populous cities, postal codes narrow down the sorting and delivery to the post-offices. In Pakistan, postal codes cut across all administrative divisions, comprising the four provinces, namely Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan, with the presence of Islamabad Capital Territory, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. In fact, every region would therefore maintain its specific range of postal codes, easing the distribution of mail in view of the country being so diverse with respect to geography.

Therefore, the importance of knowing a particular postal code remains valid for several reasons: first, the mail is directed to the correct destination without undue delays; secondly, postal employees in most cases combine operations, integrating the sorting and delivery processes with postal codes to reduce error; and, thirdly, wrong and missing postal codes affect logistics and customer care to such a great extent that companies and organizations intend to remain blameless in the public eye. Given the constant rise in e-commerce and online trading, the postal code system constitutes an integral part of Pakistan’s infrastructure, balancing between conventional mail services and the much recent delivery network. The current directory provides a comprehensive list of postal codes for major cities of the four provinces and territories of Pakistan for use by residents, businesses, and anybody else with a need to send mail inside the country. In other words, the more people are familiar with postal codes in Pakistan, the more they will help in the running of the postal system and the timely delivery of correspondence to designated recipients.

Postal Code Directory of Major Cities in Pakistan

Following is the table showing the postal codes of General Post Offices (GPOs) of major cities in Pakistan classified according into provinces and territories. Given the rather heavy number of cities in the country, numbering above 6,000, listing here concerns itself mainly with the few. Hence, every entry listing the codification of a city will give the city concerned, GPO postal codes, and the province or territory for which the codification is applicable. However, reference GPO codes are listed for major cities where more than one postal code exists. Larger towns and specific areas are included in the entire directory.
